Frequently asked questions

What the heck is a vision board anyway?

I get asked this pretty frequently, so don’t feel bad for wondering. The general answer is that it can honestly be anything you want it to be, as long as it’s a visual representation of all you want to Be, Do and Have in your life. These are represented through images, but some people might just use words, headings, symbols, or even items. In my workshops, I’ll lead you through a strategic and clarifying process to help you find images that represent what you are looking for. Here’s some examples from some of mine over the years.

How are you implementing Covid precautions?

Participants will be spaced to ensure social distancing and all will be encouraged to wear masks throughout the workshop, except when working on their boards.

Where can I get magazines or what do I use for images?

This is a popular question. Some great resources I’ve found

  • Ask your neighbors through NextDoor to drop off any used magazines;

  • Purchase used ones through Half Priced Books (usually $1 each);

  • Ask your Library, doctor’s offices or hair salons.

The most popular magazines for having a good variety of images seem to be lifestyle, travel, business, home, garden…you never know what you’ll find in a magazine. As long as you have a variety, you’ll be fine. Or, if you know of some specific images you want to find a head of time, you can do a search on Google, Pinterest or any of these sites: unsplash.com, pixabay.com, pexels.com (save images to a Word doc and then print out all at once so you aren’t trying to print individual images you may want to keep).

Why is the workshop 4 hours long?

I get it, it’s a long time to block off. There are so many other things we could be doing, especially on a Saturday (we found this happens to be the best day to host a workshop). I thought it was best described by someone who went through one of our workshops who said, “It’s like going to the gym. You know how it takes some time to buy into the whole concept of why you are at the gym? But then, after you get going and the endorphins kick in, you are totally in the zone.”  This workshop is like that. It might take you time to get into the right head space, but once your creative juices start flowing, it’s honestly hard to stop. I’ll never stop someone from finishing early, but it’s super important to allow enough time to get through the entire process. 4 hours seems to be the minimum to get there. My suggestion is to trust the process.

What if I want to do a digital vision board?

That’s great! I’ll lead you through this process along with the folks who are doing a physical board. Just remember to bring your laptop and even any images you might have already gathered. I’ll have a printer for you to capture new ones after we get through the clarifying activity. Or, if you know of some specific images you want to find ahead of time, you can do a search on Google, Pinterest or any of these sites: unsplash.com, pixabay.com, pexels.com (save images to a Word doc and then print out all at once so you aren’t trying to print individual images you may want to keep).
